On the 15th, SBS announced that the drama 'The Winning Try', starring actor Yoon Kye-sang, won the 'Grand Remi Award' in the 'Best Television, Cable, Web Production' category at the 59th WorldFest-Houston International Film Festival.
Founded in 1961, WorldFest-Houston, held in Houston, Texas, is one of the oldest independent film festivals in the world and a prestigious event that focuses on independent and art films from across the globe. This Grand Remi Award for 'The Winning Try' is seen as proof of the competitiveness of SBS dramas beyond the domestic market.
Director Jang Young-seok, who helmed 'The Winning Try', shared his thoughts, saying, "This result was achieved thanks to Studio S CEO Hong Sung-chang and my colleagues who worked tirelessly for a great production." He added, "I want to share this honor with all the actors, including Yoon Kye-sang, who suffered through the heat of summer and the cold of winter on set with me."
'The Winning Try', which concluded last August, is a comedic sports growth drama about an eccentric coach, Joo Ga-ram (played by Yoon Kye-sang), and the perennial underdog Hanyang Physical Education High School rugby team as they race toward victory at the National Sports Festival. During its broadcast, the drama received great acclaim from viewers for Yoon Kye-sang's heavy charisma and realistic acting, as well as a growth narrative that focused on the process and the people rather than just the results. It was praised for increasing immersion by realistically depicting the world of sports instead of relying on flashy fantasies.
Previously, 'The Winning Try' was recognized for both its quality and teamwork, with the Hanyang Physical Education High School rugby team winning the Best Teamwork Award at the '2025 SBS Drama Awards'.
An SBS representative stated, "We will continue to present high-quality content with global competitiveness to solidify our position as a channel that represents K-Drama."
