The Netflix series "Boyfriend on Demand" teases a romantic comedy ready to deliver everything from real-life relatability to pure dopamine, led by JISOO and Seo In-guk.

Premiering Friday, March 6, "Boyfriend on Demand" is a “dreams-come-true” rom-com about Mirae (played by JISOO), a webtoon PD worn down by everyday life, who subscribes to and test-drives romance through a virtual dating simulation. "Boyfriend on Demand" is both the series title and the in-story virtual dating subscription service that serves up picture-perfect dates in a digital world. Set against the everyday grind every office worker knows, the unique twist of “romance on subscription in virtual reality” promises a rush of butterflies.

Most of all, the pairing of JISOO and Seo In-guk is already drawing big buzz. With her bright, down-to-earth image, JISOO slips seamlessly into the deeply relatable Mirae. Seo In-guk, long noted for swoony chemistry in romance projects, shows off a different side here. As fellow webtoon PDs, the two become late-night coworkers whose paths keep tangling the more they try to avoid it.

First up, JISOO plays Mirae, an office worker so buried in “real life” that love has fallen to the back burner. Newly released character photos show Mirae trudging to work with an exhausted face. She nods off in noise-canceling headphones, like someone dreaming of tuning out the world―textbook everyday employee energy. Another still captures her hopping from foot to foot outside in the dead of winter. Her up-and-down office life sparks curiosity, and then comes the eye-catcher: Mirae slips on the "Boyfriend on Demand" device with a curious look. What kind of dates await her in VR? The anticipation is real.

Seo In-guk’s character, Gyeongnam, also heightens expectations with layered charm. He’s a star webtoon PD at Naemo Studio, yet somehow a “can’t-quite-read-him” colleague Mirae would rather avoid. In one photo, his focus screams untouchable “work ace” energy. Even his indifferent gaze at Mirae suggests a subtle distance. But the next shot hints at a cute twist: Gyeongnam looks tipsy, showing a 180-degree shift from his usual composed self―and teasing an unexpected, endearing side.

“Mirae is an ordinary young adult who works hard and tries to find happiness in her own time,” JISOO shares. “Because I saw her as a universal character anyone could relate to, I focused on capturing Mirae’s emotions in my acting.” Seo In-guk describes Gyeongnam as “a character who’s stoic on the outside but delicate inside,” adding, “There are twists and laughs ahead, so please look forward to it,” hinting at intriguing changes to come for Mirae and Gyeongnam.

Director Kim Jeong-sik says, “The biggest draw is watching Mirae grow and seeing how her relationship with Gyeongnam changes,” adding, “Mirae, who’s been hurt by love in real life, experiences the virtual world of "Boyfriend on Demand", heals herself, and finds the courage to love again. I believe viewers will empathize with her emotions along the way and naturally root for her.”

JISOO and Seo In-guk’s thrill-tinged, wish-fulfilling rom-com "Boyfriend on Demand" premieres Friday, March 6 on Netflix.
