Cha Tae-hyun Says He Put Off Marriage for Career―Got Dumped; Here Is How He Won Her Back

On the Jan. 20 episode of SBS’s “The Ballad of Us Radio,” listeners opened up about heartbreak―and Cha Tae-hyun shared a story of his own.

One guest in the studio said he’d dreamed of marrying his ex, but while he was hustling to “stabilize” his career, the relationship fell apart and she broke up with him.

Hearing that, Cha reflected on his past. “I’d promised myself I’d get married at 30,” he said. “But around that time, work wasn’t going well. After 'My Sassy Girl,' things slowly started to dip.”

“I got greedy and thought I needed one more big swing before getting married,” he continued. “I asked if we could delay the wedding―and she broke up with me on the spot.”

When co-host Jun Hyun-moo asked how he won her back, Cha didn’t hesitate: “I ran straight to her, apologized, and we got married when I was 30.” A breakup scare with a happy ending.
