Netflix’s animated feature "KPop Demon Hunters" beat "Zootopia 2" to take home Best Motion Picture ― Animated at the 83rd Golden Globe Awards, held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California, on Jan. 12 (KST). The film topped a stacked field that also included "Elio," "Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle," "Arco," and "Little Amélie or the Character of Rain."
While "KPop Demon Hunters" entered as a frontrunner, the race was far from a lock. "Zootopia 2", which opened in November, surged as a heavyweight contender, backed by a franchise with Golden Globes and Oscars pedigree ― making the showdown one of the night’s buzziest storylines.
The face-off also set the tone for March’s Academy Awards. "KPop Demon Hunters" not only clinched the animated feature prize ― the category’s top honor ― but also swept Best Original Song with Golden, sealing one of the ceremony’s biggest wins.
Directed by Canadian filmmaker Maggie Kang, "KPop Demon Hunters" is an action-fantasy adventure about K-pop superstars Rumi, Mira, and Zoey, who moonlight as secret protectors of the world beyond the spotlight. Since its June 20 debut, the film has become the first title in Netflix history to surpass 300 million cumulative views, ranking No. 1 across both films and series on the platform. "Golden," composed in part by EJAE, also dominated the Billboard Hot 100 for eight straight weeks at No. 1.
