Former Violinist Eugene Park Accuses Aunt of Embezzling Billions of Won

Former violinist Eugene Park (49) has filed a criminal complaint alleging that his maternal aunt embezzled billions of won worth of his assets without his consent.

According to a media report on the 8th, the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office's Major Crimes Investigation Division summoned Park's aunt, identified only as Ms. A, for questioning in mid-April.

Park's legal representatives claim that Ms. A managed approximately 5.6 billion won (around $4 million USD) worth of his assets—including real estate and bank deposits registered under his name—without his permission. Of that amount, she is believed to have used roughly 2.8 billion won (about $2 million USD).

They also allege that Ms. A took out an annuity insurance policy in the United States using Park's funds and designated herself and her children as the beneficiaries, while failing to return the assets to him. Ms. A has reportedly responded that she had been authorized by Park to manage his finances.

Park inherited real estate in both New Jersey and Jeju Island after the death of his father in 2004 and his mother in 2015. There have also been past allegations that Park's former manager, identified as Mr. K, exploited him by purchasing his properties for prices well below market value.
