[SBS Star] 'Squid Game' Director Hwang Dong-hyuk Expresses Discomfort About Park Sung Hoon's Upload

[SBS Star] 'Squid Game' Director Hwang Dong-hyuk Expresses Discomfort About Park Sung Hoon's Upload
Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director of Netflix's mega-hit series "Squid Game," expressed discomfort with actor Park Sung Hoon's recent Instagram post featuring adult film posters inspired by "Squid Game."

On January 2, Hwang Dong-hyuk sat down for an interview with the press about his lastest project "Squid Game 2," released on December 26.

During the interview, Hwang Dong-hyuk was asked about his feelings regarding the mistake made by Park Sung Hoon, who played Hyun-joo in "Squid Game 2."

Back on December 30, Park Sung Hoon posted an adult film cover inspired by "Squid Game" on his Instagram.

The poster featured multiple images of nude women, some posing provocatively in highly suggestive ways, with elements inspired by "Squid Game" outfits.

Although he quickly deleted the Story, many of his followers had already seen it, and it spread online.

As this gained traction online, Park Sung Hoon's agency, BH Entertainment, released a statement: "While sorting through the influx of direct messages on his Instagram, Park Sung Hoon mistakenly pressed the wrong button, which caused the image to be uploaded," and stated that he was reflecting on his actions.

However, since Instagram does not allow a received message to be shared to one's Story with a single button press, the explanation only added to the controversy.

Eventually, they clarified again, saying, "Park Sung Hoon received the poster from a random person and determined it was problematic, so he saved it on his phone to report it to us. In the process, it was accidentally uploaded."

But fans' disappointment with Park Sung Hoon has been growing, fueled by the upload of the adult film poster based on his own project and what appeared to be his subsequent excuses.

About his feelings, Hwang Dong-hyuk said, "From what I understand, adult films like that were produced overseas during 'Squid Game' as well. It seems this kind of thing happens whenever a work becomes hugely popular."

He added, "They make me uncomfortable because they completely undermine the meaning of the original work."

Hwang Dong-hyuk continued, "I haven't had the chance to talk to Sung Hoon about the issue. It seems like someone sent it to him, but I haven't heard how he ended up posting it. Honestly, I'd like to know why he made such a mistake."
