On May 7, it was announced that Lee Minho has decided to join a new drama titled 'The King: the Eternal Monarch' (literal translation) as his comeback project after serving his national mandatory duty for the last two years.

Kim Eun-sook is well-known for writing mega-hit dramas, such as 'Secret Garden' (2010), 'The Heirs' (2013), 'The Descendants of the Sun' (2016), 'Guardian: the Lonely and Great God' (2016), and many more.
As Lee Minho worked with Kim Eun-sook for 'The Heirs', this will mark his second time joining forces with Kim Eun-sook.

'The King: the Eternal Monarch' is a drama that tackles the subject of an alternate reality.
In one world, the Emperor of the Korean Empire seeks to keep the door to an alternate reality closed, while in the other, a detective of the Republic of Korea tries to keep the door open in order to protect his life and the people he loves.
