Korean films 'COLONY' (directed by Yeon Sang-ho) and 'Wild Sing' (directed by Son Jae-gon) have maintained the top two spots at the box office for two consecutive days, setting the stage for a fierce competition leading into the weekend.
According to the Korean Film Council's (KOFIC) integrated computer network for theater tickets on June 5, 'COLONY' drew 79,926 viewers nationwide on June 4, holding onto the No. 1 spot at the box office. Its cumulative audience count stands at 4,123,667.
'Wild Sing' came in second, drawing 40,462 viewers on the same day. Its cumulative audience count has reached 222,535.
Both films saw a significant drop in audience numbers compared to June 3, which was a holiday for Election Day. Ahead of the weekend, 'COLONY' has recorded 100,000 ticket presales, while 'Wild Sing' has recorded 60,000.
Having completely outperformed competing foreign films such as 'Backrooms', 'Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu', and 'Michael', the two movies are gearing up for another tight battle at the box office this weekend.
