The court has dismissed the request to reconsider the arrest of Kim Se-ui, CEO of the YouTube channel Hover Lab, who was detained on charges of defaming actor Kim Soo-hyun.
On June 2, the Criminal Appeals Division 8-1 of the Seoul Central District Court (presided over by Judges Cha Seung-hwan, Choi Hae-il, and Choi Jin-sook) dismissed the request for a review of the legality of detention filed by Kim.
A review of the legality of detention is a procedure in which a detained suspect requests the court to re-examine the legality and necessity of their arrest. Kim filed the request on May 31, five days after his arrest on May 26.
After completing the questioning, which lasted for about an hour starting at 2:10 p.m. that afternoon, Kim met with reporters to plead his innocence.
Bound in ropes, Kim claimed, "Because of my arrest, a situation has arisen where I cannot actively respond. Certain groups are spreading serious false information and defaming me, the late Kim Sae-ron, and her bereaved family, as if they had been waiting for this."
He continued, "A lawsuit on the merits is underway to restore the honor of the late Kim Sae-ron's bereaved family. With my arrest, it is being made to look as if all the claims made by myself and the bereaved family are lies. I am facing absurd attacks," repeatedly emphasizing his position.
Previously, on May 26, Judge Bu Dong-sik, the warrant judge at the Seoul Central District Court, issued an arrest warrant for Kim, stating, "There is a risk of destruction of evidence and flight."
