The Netflix variety show "Jae-seok's B&B Rules!", which was unveiled on Tuesday, May 26, entered the "Today's Top 10 Series in South Korea" chart at No. 3 on the following day, May 27, before claiming the No. 1 spot on May 28, just two days after its release.
The explosive popularity of "Jae-seok's B&B Rules!" is shaking up not just South Korea, but all of Asia. As of May 28, the show swept the No. 1 spot in three countries, including South Korea, Hong Kong, and Singapore. It also proved its global appeal by simultaneously entering the Top 10 in eight major Asian countries, ranking No. 3 in Malaysia and Taiwan, and No. 4 in the Philippines, Indonesia, and Thailand.
"Jae-seok's B&B Rules!" is a group camping variety show where rookie camp host Yu Jae-seok and his unpredictable staff members Lee Kwang-soo, Byeon Wooseok, and Ji Ye-eun help guests escape their daily routines. Following the massive success of the previously beloved "Kian's Bizarre B&B", the show is successfully continuing the hit lineage of Netflix's "guesthouse variety" universe.
Immediately after the release of Episodes 1 to 5, viewers have been enthusiastically cheering for the unpredictable chemistry between "Team Yu Jae-seok" and the guests at the massive 30,000-pyeong (approx. 24.5-acre) campsite. In particular, Yu Jae-seok's signature "Cushion Quiz" and "Iron Delivery Box Game" delivered both retro variety nostalgia and a thrilling rush of dopamine.
The performances of the cast members are also dazzling. Led by Yu Jae-seok as the "rookie camp host" who lost his soul for the first time in his 35-year variety career, the perfect comedic synergy of the four members shined brightly: "disciplinarian" Lee Kwang-soo, who engaged in flawless banter and even a slapstick cheek-slapping skit; Byeon Wooseok, who brought unexpected laughter with his clumsy, contrasting charm; and Ji Ye-eun, who added a touch of familiarity with her "real sibling" chemistry with her actual younger brother.
Producer Lee So-min shared, "I think the show received love beyond our expectations from the very first week because the fresh charms of Byeon Wooseok and Ji Ye-eun were added to the reliable, long-standing chemistry of Yu Jae-seok and Lee Kwang-soo." She added, "I am happy and grateful that the genuine laughter created by the cast and the guests, who all dreamed of escaping their daily lives, was well-received by the viewers."
Meanwhile, at the end of Episode 5, a surprise appearance by the couple Lee Hyori and Lee Sang-soon visiting the camp was teased, raising anticipation for future episodes. Having sparked a global sensation right from its premiere, the second half of "Jae-seok's B&B Rules!" (Episodes 6 to 10) will be released worldwide on Netflix on Tuesday, June 2.
