Actress Kim Min-ha is making her return with the film 'Hana Korea'.
'Hana Korea' is a film that follows the journey of Hyesun, a North Korean defector who strives to move forward despite her unfamiliar new life. Inspired by true events, the film is a co-production between South Korea and Denmark, starring Kim Min-ha, Kim Joo-ryoung, and An Seo-hyun.
The film generated significant buzz after winning the Audience Award in the Flash Forward section at the 30th Busan International Film Festival. It is written and directed by Danish filmmaker Frederik Sølberg, drawing attention. By capturing the life and growth of Hyesun, a North Korean defector, through the lens of a Nordic Danish director, the film heightens anticipation for a unique perspective.
Kim Min-ha, who received domestic and international spotlight for her role as 'young adult Sunja' in Apple TV+'s 'Pachinko', plays the role of the North Korean defector Hyesun. Having previously showcased a new side of her charm in the drama 'Typhoon Family', Kim is set to lead the film, touching hearts with her restrained emotional acting and deep, expressive gaze.
In addition, Kim Joo-ryoung—the irreplaceable, talented actress who captivated global viewers as 'Mi-nyeo' in the Netflix series 'Squid Game' Season 1—takes on the role of 'Sook-hee', showcasing her strong presence as a vital link between women enduring unfamiliar lives. An Seo-hyun, who delivered a stable performance alongside international stars like Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, and Steven Yeun as 'Mija' in director Bong Joon-ho's 'Okja', will play 'Bomi', a character with an innocent charm, proving her limitless potential as an actress.
The film is scheduled to be released in South Korea on July 8.
