Previously, on May 14, the Seoul Gangnam Police Station applied for an arrest warrant for Representative Kim, citing charges including violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Sexual Crimes (illegal filming and distribution using cameras, etc.) and defamation.
In May of last year, Kim held a press conference with the bereaved family of the late Kim Sae-ron and released an audio recording containing claims that "Kim Soo-hyun had been dating Kim Sae-ron since she was a minor."
On May 25, a day before the pretrial detention hearing, Kim appeared on the YouTube channel 'One Way News' hosted by political YouTuber Jeon Han-gil, protesting, "This arrest warrant was requested based entirely on false facts."
Kim argued, "The arrest warrant request states that I pose a risk of destroying evidence, but I have submitted everything, including my phone and KakaoTalk chat logs. Connecting the fact that Kim Sae-ron's father did not submit his phone to the grounds for my arrest makes no sense."
He also pointed out that the National Forensic Service reached a conclusion of "unable to determine AI manipulation" in November of last year regarding the controversial audio file, adding, "If the warrant is dismissed, I plan to sue the police officers and prosecutors involved on charges of abuse of authority and spreading false information."
The Seoul Gangnam Police Station recently stated in the arrest warrant application submitted to the prosecution, "Even though the suspect was well aware that Actor Kim did not date the deceased when she was a minor and that the cause of the deceased's death was not attributed to Actor Kim, he distributed false information with the intent to slander."
The decision on whether to issue the arrest warrant for Representative Kim is expected to be made later today.
