Actor Ji Chang-wook has captured attention with his dynamic action performance in the film 'COLONY,' delivering a sequence that feels almost like a genre shift.

Attending the press screening and press conference for the film 'COLONY' held at CGV Yongsan in Seoul on the afternoon of May 20, Ji Chang-wook said, "When I first read the script for 'COLONY,' I found the way human nature is revealed to be incredibly interesting. Hyun-seok, the character I play, was also someone I could deeply relate to. I sympathized with how, when faced with danger, he thinks of his family first and exposes the vulnerability of relationships."

Hyun-seok, played by Ji Chang-wook, is a building security guard. When an unidentified infection spreads throughout the building, he fights desperately to protect his disabled older sister (played by Kim Shin-rok). In the process, he delivers a one-versus-many action scene using a kitchen knife. Living up to his reputation as an actor skilled in action, he heightens the tension with a spectacular and dynamic performance.

Regarding the kitchen knife action, director Yeon Sang-ho began by saying, "Hyun-seok fights with a long staff, and at first, I wanted to attach a kitchen knife to the staff to make him look like Guan Yu."

He added, "Since Hyun-seok is a character who undergoes a dramatic transformation, I thought it would be good to have a distinction in his action scenes as well. After discussing it with Ji Chang-wook, we decided on him fighting with a kitchen knife."

Director Yeon Sang-ho explained Ji Chang-wook's kitchen knife action sequence, saying, "Ji Chang-wook is so good at action that I knew his movements alone would deliver a sense of urgency. That's why we filmed the scene with a fixed camera, using only enough movement to follow him with a telephoto lens."

Ji Chang-wook also mentioned the energy he received from the actors playing the zombies. "When I met the zombie actors on set, it was awe-inspiring," he said, expressing his gratitude. "Their makeup and movements were so impressive. It couldn't have been more comfortable acting in front of them. I received a lot of help. I think it was the first time I had ever looked into a zombie's eyes so closely. Thanks to them, I think I was able to deliver a good reaction."

'COLONY' is a film about isolated survivors inside a sealed building following an unidentified infection outbreak, who face infected beings evolving in unpredictable ways. The film was invited to the Midnight Screenings section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival, where it made its world premiere.

Having successfully completed its schedule at Cannes, 'COLONY' will meet domestic audiences starting May 21.
