Actress Jun Ji-hyun shared her thoughts on attending the Cannes Film Festival.
Attending the press screening and press conference for the film 'COLONY' held at CGV Yongsan in Seoul on the afternoon of May 20, Jun Ji-hyun shared her experience visiting the Cannes Film Festival—marking the first time since her debut that one of her projects was invited to an official section of the prestigious festival. "We went there to introduce our film, but we actually came back recharged with energy. It was a deeply grateful experience," she said.
In this film, Jun stars as Kwon Se-jeong, a biotechnology professor who leads a group of survivors against unpredictably evolving infected hosts. Trapped inside a high-rise building, she coolly analyzes the mutation patterns of the infected to lead the escape. However, audiences won't be seeing Jun's signature dynamic action sequences in this project.
Regarding this, Jun explained, "Since Kwon Se-jeong is a biotechnology professor, I thought it wouldn't make sense for her to suddenly be amazing at action, so I exercised restraint. However, because she is someone who manages to escape crises in any situation, I tried to find the right balance in my performance."
She continued, sharing her main focus for the role: "Rather than highlighting any extraordinary traits of Se-jeong, I wanted to act in a way that allowed the audience to put themselves in her shoes, following along with her dilemmas and choices."
'COLONY' is a film about survivors trapped inside a building sealed off due to an unidentified infection outbreak, fighting against infected hosts who are evolving in unpredictable ways. The film made its world premiere after being invited to the Midnight Screening section of the 79th Cannes Film Festival.
Having successfully wrapped up its schedule at Cannes, 'COLONY' will meet domestic audiences starting May 21.
