Actress Park Bo-young shared her thoughts on taking on her first crime genre project and playing a character driven by desire.

On the morning of the 27th, at the press conference for the Disney+ original series 'Gold Land' (written by Hwang Jo-yoon, directed by Kim Seong-hun) held at the Conrad Seoul Hotel in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul, Park Bo-young said, "I wanted to challenge myself in terms of genre. I also had a meeting with the director, and I was drawn in when he said, 'If someone who seems like they would return the gold makes a different choice, wouldn't the viewers feel a different kind of emotion?'"

'Gold Land' is a survival thriller about Kim Hee-ju (Park Bo-young), who gets her hands on 150 billion won worth of gold bars from a smuggling organization and struggles to keep the gold for herself amidst a chaotic mess of greed and betrayal. Taking on her first crime genre role, Park Bo-young plays Kim Hee-ju, a customs officer whose eyes are opened to desire by the 150 billion won in gold, showing a new side of herself that has never been seen before.

For the role of Kim Hee-ju, Park Bo-young lost weight and built the character with almost no makeup. She explained, "The director asked if I could lose weight. He said that since Hee-ju isn't a friend who grew up happily and has many scenes later on where she is running away with the gold, he wanted her face to look a bit thinner, so I lost weight throughout the filming. He also said he would prefer it if I didn't wear makeup. At first, I thought I should at least wear some, so I did a little bit, but later on, I almost completely removed it."

Director Kim Seong-hun highly praised Park Bo-young's efforts. Director Kim said of Park, "You can really see her bare face, and I think the courage to do that was incredible. Expressing one's own desire is not something that can be done overtly. It's something that grows from within the heart, and Park Bo-young expressed those small changes delicately and well."

Director Kim continued, "In the action scenes, she performed without sparing herself. Also, the part I value the most is that she agreed to everything without holding back when it came to expressing the character of Hee-ju, who is gradually collapsing and becoming exhausted in life. You will be able to see a new side of Park Bo-young as Kim Hee-ju within the drama," he teased.

'Gold Land,' where you can meet Park Bo-young's new transformation, will premiere its first and second episodes on Disney+ on Wednesday the 29th. Afterward, it will greet viewers with two episodes every Wednesday, for a total of 10 episodes.
