The horror film "Salmokji : Whispering Water" opened at No. 1 at the box office.
According to the Korean Film Council’s integrated ticketing system on the 9th, "Salmokji : Whispering Water" drew 89,913 moviegoers nationwide on its March 8 opening day.
It’s the best horror opening since "The Medium" in 2021 (129,937 admissions). It’s also the first new release in a while to claim the top spot, after about two months of the box office being dominated by "The King's Warden" and "Project Hail Mary."
"Salmokji : Whispering Water" follows a crew that spots a mysterious figure on a road-view image. When they head to a reservoir to reshoot, they come face-to-face with something lurking in the dark, deep water. The cast includes Kim Hye-yoon, Lee Jong-won, Kim Jun-han, Yoon Jae-chan, and Jang Da-ah.
"Salmokji : Whispering Water" surpassed 75,000 presale tickets before release. Its opening-day tally beat its advance sales, raising expectations for the weekend run.
