In a media interview held at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, on April 8 for the Netflix series "Bloodhounds 2", Lee picked Tae as the opponent who hit the hardest among the characters he fought on screen.
“From what I know, Tae Won-seok boxed a lot when he was younger. He’s powerful and fast,” Lee said. “We face off at the end of Episode 6, and I really felt it then. His skills are incredible. Boxing is all about your lower body and core, and his were on another level.”
Season 1 of Bloodhounds, released in 2023, delivered a rush with bare-knuckle action from two rookie boxers taking on illegal loan sharks. Three years later, "Bloodhounds 2" follows Geon-woo (Woo Do-hwan) and Woo-jin (Lee Sang-yi) as they throw another satisfying straight hook at a global illegal boxing league ruled by money and violence. RAIN (Jung Ji-hoon) joins the cast as the ultimate villain Baek-jeong, who runs the league.
Geon-woo and Woo-jin, who went from rivals to friends in Season 1, are even tighter now. Geon-woo is chasing a championship dream, and Woo-jin is in his corner as coach―brothers in everything but blood. But Baek-jeong starts putting the squeeze on them to pull Geon-woo into the illegal IKFC league. To protect the people they love―and their “boxer’s heart”―the duo risks it all in a fight to the finish against Baek-jeong’s crew. Kang In-beom (Tae Won-seok), who showed overwhelming power in Season 1, returns at Baek-jeong’s side to menace the pair once again in Season 2.
Lee wrapped JTBC’s "Good Boy" right before shooting "Bloodhounds 2". After teaming up to take down villains in "Good Boy," Lee and Tae meet as enemies in "Bloodhounds 2".
Recalling the intense hotel hallway fight between Woo-jin and Kang In-beom, Lee said, “We shot that scene with everything we had.” He added, “I had just finished Good Boy, so going from being on the same team with Won-seok hyung to squaring off made us laugh.” He explained that they trained hard together at an action school before filming: “He’s a hyung who boxed, and I started training properly last year. We practiced our timing and moves a lot.”
“He was so good―heavy punches, quick movements,” Lee said. “He models his boxing after Mike Tyson, which is different from my style. Practicing that contrast was a lot of fun.” Although the sequence was dangerous, he shared that repeated rehearsals and thorough safety checks meant they wrapped without any injuries―and he was proud of that.
Released on April 3, "Bloodhounds 2" hit No. 1 on Netflix in Korea right after launch and reached No. 2 on the Global Top 10 TV (Non-English) chart, winning over viewers at home and abroad. The season runs seven episodes and is now streaming on Netflix.
