Netflix will premiere the young adult horror series "If Wishes Could Kill" on April 24.
"If Wishes Could Kill" follows high school students who receive sudden death notices after a curse from a wish-granting app called “If Wishes Could Kill.” They fight to break the curse before it claims them.
It marks Netflix’s first Korean YA horror series. Director Park Yun-seo, who served as B director on Netflix’s "Kingdom" Season 2 and co-directed the drama "Moving," is at the helm. The cast features rising actors including Jeon So-young, Kang Mina, Baek Seon-ho, Hyun Woo-seok, and Lee Hyo-je, joined by Jeon So-ni and Noh Jae-won, whose solid performances are set to anchor the series. Anticipation is high for the youthful energy they will bring.
The teaser poster shows an empty hallway and a neatly uniformed student gripping a cracked smartphone―an arresting visual for the app that grants wishes at the cost of death. The tagline “Do you have one? A wish you’d die for” links desire and death, sparking questions about what wishes the students made to "If Wishes Could Kill"―and how those wishes will return as a curse.
The teaser trailer opens with “Hyeong-uk” (Lee Hyo-je) clutching a box cutter in the middle of a classroom. As the red timer on his phone ticks down, he charges at his classmate “Se-a” (Jeon So-young). The shocking start raises questions: Why does Hyeong-uk suddenly threaten Se-a? What does the timer mean? And how is the "If Wishes Could Kill" app tied to this incident?
Next, students jokingly send in videos to "If Wishes Could Kill" while holding papers with their fortunes and names. Strange events unfold the moment those clips are uploaded, hinting at a serious curse within the app. As the characters scramble to escape the inescapable, the “wish-granting app”―or rather, the “death-granting app”―sets the stage for an unpredictable ride.
