Actor Lee Seo-jin is taking on his first-ever play in the 27th year of his career.
He recently confirmed his role in LG Arts Center’s production of "Uncle Vanya", directed by Son Sang-gyu, drawing major attention. Photos from the first script reading, held in a warm and upbeat atmosphere, have been released.
"Uncle Vanya" is one of Russian author Anton Chekhov’s signature works and remains one of the most frequently staged classics worldwide. It follows everyday people like Vanya and Sonya, who have devoted their lives to their home, family, and its order―until a sudden shake-up throws their worlds off course.
On stage, Lee will play the title role of Vanya, a man who vents his frustration and doubt about life while still holding deep affection for his family and sincere hopes for his dreams. Lee is set to appear with a single cast across all 22 performances. Expectations are high that he will deliver Vanya’s layered emotions with conviction and leave audiences deeply moved.
“Honestly, I wrestled with the decision to take on the stage for a long time,” Lee said. “But it felt like a meaningful new challenge, so I decided to do it. I’m practicing hard because I want to show audiences my own take on Vanya. I’m fully focused on rehearsals.”
Lee Seo-jin’s stage debut, "Uncle Vanya", will run from May 7 to 31 at LG Arts Center Seoul, LG SIGNATURE Hall.
