Yerin Ha, the first Korean-descent actor to lead the "Bridgerton" series, shared her grandmother Son Sook’s review after watching the show.
At a "Bridgerton" Season 4 press conference held in Myeong-dong, Seoul, on the 4th, Yerin Ha was asked how her actor grandmother reacted to the series. “Grandma watched all of 'Bridgerton' Season 4,” she said. “She watched it with her juniors and sent me photo proof. Her eyesight isn’t great, so she watched up close to the TV. She messaged me, ‘I’m proud of you’ and ‘I love you.’ It was so warm and touching.”
When asked if her grandmother saw the revealing scenes, Yerin Ha laughed and replied, “She watched those too. I thought she’d skip them, but she said she saw everything.”
Asked about her grandmother’s influence, she said, “When I was young, I tried to come to Korea about once a year. Grandma was always doing theater. I once watched her one-person play, and her crying scene really stayed with me. Seeing the audience cry with her made me feel the power of art. Theater’s ability to comfort and create empathy felt so cool. That’s when I got inspired. Watching her on stage made me realize acting could be a dream I could actually achieve.”
Yerin Ha added, “Grandma is currently performing a play called ‘An Old Person’s Dream.’ I’m scheduled to fly out on Friday, but I’m planning to go see it tomorrow.”
"Bridgerton" Season 4 follows free-spirited Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) as he navigates romance and identity across class lines between the ‘Woman in the Silver Dress’ he meets at a masquerade ball and a real-life maid, Sophie (Yerin Ha).
Yerin Ha drew global buzz as the first Korean-descent actor cast as the female lead, and also garnered attention in Korea as the granddaughter of actor Son Sook.
