A man in his 30s who broke into TV personality Park Na-rae’s home and stole valuables worth tens of millions of won has been sentenced to prison again on appeal.
On the 5th, the Seoul Western District Court’s Criminal Appeals Division 2-1 upheld a two-year prison sentence for the 38-year-old Defendant, who was indicted for theft and nighttime residential trespassing, matching the lower court’s ruling.
The court said, “The Defendant committed the crime while under a suspended sentence, and there are no new circumstances that would change the sentencing compared to the first trial,” adding that the original sentence did not fall outside a reasonable range.
Prosecutors said the Defendant broke into Park Na-rae’s residence in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, in April last year and stole valuables worth tens of millions of won before fleeing. Some of the stolen items were later sold as stolen goods.
In September last year, the first trial court noted that while the Defendant admitted to the charges and returned money and goods to the victim, a prison term was unavoidable given his prior record for similar offenses and the high value of the stolen items, and sentenced him to two years in prison.
