Actress Jang Hye-jin shared her affection for Choi Woo-shik, her on-screen son in two films, at a press screening of "Number One" in Seoul.
Speaking at the media showcase and Q&A held Jan. 29 at CGV Yongsan, Jang looked back on reuniting with Choi after 2019’s "Parasite". “When 'Parasite' began, Woo-shik really looked out for me,” she said. “I don’t think I was able to do the same for him back then.”
“This time, we talked a lot on set. Woo-shik actually looks a lot like my own son,” she added. “I even told him once, ‘I hope my boy grows up like you.’ Because he resembles my son so much, playing his mother felt completely natural.”
Jang went on to praise her younger co-star. “Since 'Parasite', his emotions have become deeper and broader, and his expression is so fluid,” she said. “I can’t tell you how many times I watched the monitor and felt envious. I’m so glad we worked together again.”
"Number One" follows Hamin (Choi Woo-shik), who starts seeing a countdown number every time he eats his mom Eunsil’s (Jang Hye-jin) cooking―then discovers that when it hits zero, she’ll die. He scrambles to protect her before time runs out.
The film opens Feb. 11.
