Singer Park Yu-chun, 39―who has been working primarily in Japan following a drug scandal―addressed swirling rumors about him with a pointed message on social media.
According to industry sources on the 23rd, Park posted in Japanese the day prior, writing, “There are too many rumors I’ve neither thought about nor said,” adding that some of what he heard was “shocking” because it was news to him. He concluded, “Please only believe what I say myself.”
His remarks arrive after his former fiancée Hwang Hana, 37, was recently indicted and detained on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act. Prosecutors allege that in July 2023, at an apartment in Seoul’s Gangnam district, Hwang encouraged acquaintances to use methamphetamine and administered injections herself. She returned to Korea after a prolonged stay overseas and now awaits trial.
Amid the case, unverified chatter has circulated in entertainment circles that Hwang may have mentioned certain celebrities during the investigation in hopes of leniency. As of now, authorities have not officially confirmed any specific allegations against other entertainers or the launch of related investigations.
Park was previously indicted in 2019 for using drugs with Hwang and received a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years. He had held a press conference proclaiming his innocence―famously saying he would retire from entertainment if he had taken drugs―but later tested positive in a National Forensic Service analysis. Though he announced his retirement, he subsequently resumed activities in Japan, releasing music and appearing in dramas.
