Titled “Why Even Hike?” (literal title) the show follows four self-proclaimed non-hikers who sign up for their first-ever trek―an unforgiving, breathtaking expedition across Korea’s snow-packed peaks in the dead of winter. For anyone who’s ever wondered, “Seriously, what’s the point of hiking?” this series sets out to answer―with laughs, panic, and a surprising amount of heart.
The roster of reluctant climbers includes singer Car, the garden; DAY6 drummer DOWOON; ALLDAY PROJECT’s TARZZAN; and rising actor Lee Chae-min―four of the moment’s most buzzed-about names.
Car, the garden brings his unmistakable vocals and razor-sharp wit that endeared him to reality fans, while DOWOON―DAY6’s resident “genius” drummer―leans on his easygoing charm. Lee Chae-min, a breakout “blue-chip” in variety and drama, joins the lineup, and TARZZAN balances a cool onstage aura with quirky humor and seemingly endless stamina.
Expect an unpredictable mix as this unlikely foursome tackles a concept we haven’t quite seen before. Their grueling, often hilarious ascent trades off between belly laughs and blink-back-the-tears moments―the kind of journey that turns strangers into teammates.
“Why Even Hike?” also marks a fresh format from Na Young-seok’s camp, heightening anticipation for the team’s synergy with Netflix. The series is directed by PD Park Hyun-yong, known for delivering big laughs with "New Journey to the West," "Jinny's Kitchen," and "Earth Arcade."
“As the saying goes, ‘Suffer together, bond fast,’” PD Park says. “Watching four men who’ve never met grow close while battling minus-20-degree mountain trails is the show’s biggest hook. I’m excited for viewers to see how our non-believers discover the fun―and the pull―of K-hiking.”
