"Avatar: Fire and Ash" has drawn more than 5.7 million moviegoers in Korea, propelling the country into the film’s global top five markets by box office.

According to Box Office Mojo, as of January 7, Korea’s gross stands at approximately $44.1 million, trailing only North America ($311.3 million), China ($137.9 million), France ($82.2 million) and Germany ($64.1 million).

"The Way of Water" posted a similar feat in 2022, underscoring the franchise’s enduring pull with Korean audiences. With viewers immersed in the otherworldly scope of Pandora, the Sully family’s grief-and-resilience arc, and the film’s jumbo-sized action, repeat viewings are likely.

Four weeks in, however, the film has ceded the No. 1 spot at the Korean box office to local hit "Once We Were Us," making a 10 million-admissions finish unlikely. A realistic final tally looks closer to 7-8 million.

Set after the death of Neteyam, the story finds Jake Sully and Neytiri facing a new threat as the Ash People, led by Varang, emerge―plunging Pandora into a fiery new crisis. "Fire and Ash" marks the third chapter in James Cameron’s blockbuster Avatar saga.
