The new season kicks off Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 9 p.m., and it’s more than a routine return: the show has overhauled everything from team lineups to game operations. A sneak-peek “reboot” clip on YouTube is already racking up buzz ahead of premiere night.
This season trims and tunes the league to eight teams with seven players each, aiming for tighter competitive balance while sharpening every squad’s identity and concept. True to its reputation as Korea’s signature sports-entertainment franchise, expect bigger laughs―and even bigger stakes―as the competitive fire gets turned up.
One early scene-stealer in the preview is Yoon Tae-jin, who’s back with FC Streaming Fighter. Asked to pick between her former FC Anaconda and her current squad, she doesn’t miss a beat: “What’s Anaconda again?” she quips. She also admits she’s never notched a win and has been cut twice, naming Song Hae-na as her rival. Song fires right back: “You’re the one I have to beat,” stoking anticipation for their showdown.
New recruits are shaking things up, too. National team wrestler Jang Eun-sil―famed for her powerhouse physique and a survival-show championship―joins the league and declares, “I’m here to win.” She even pokes at Gucheokjangshin, the show’s famously towering squad, saying she might have to “fold them in half,” prompting Kim Seol-hee to joke she suddenly might be “too scared to play.”
There’s also a fan-pleasing add: HyunJin of idol band LATENCY finally makes the cut after multiple tries. When commentator Bae Sung-jae teases that another rejection would’ve made it her fourth attempt, HyunJin shoots back, “I had to win viewers’ hearts,” keeping the mood light. Asked which opponent looks most beatable, she confidently name-checks Dayoung―who clutches her neck in mock offense and laughs, “That stung.”
