NewJeans’ five-member era is over. ADOR says it has terminated DANIELLE’s exclusive contract while continuing talks with the rest of the group. The label also plans legal action, naming former CEO Min Hee-jin and a member of DANIELLE’s family as parties it believes helped fuel the dispute.
In a statement on Dec. 29, ADOR said it has “continued discussions with the NewJeans members and their families, including MINJI, HANNI and DANIELLE,” following a court ruling that affirmed the validity of the exclusive contracts.
According to ADOR, HANNI recently visited Korea with her family for an extended meeting with the company. “We revisited past issues and took time to look at matters more objectively,” the label said, adding that HANNI decided to respect the court’s decision and continue with ADOR. MINJI remains in ongoing talks to broaden mutual understanding, the company added.
As for DANIELLE, ADOR said it notified her today that it is terminating her exclusive contract, determining that it would be difficult to move forward together as a NewJeans member and ADOR artist. The company also said it will seek legal responsibility from one of DANIELLE’s family members and former CEO Min Hee-jin, whom it deems to bear significant responsibility for creating the dispute and delaying NewJeans’ return.
ADOR also addressed the backdrop of the conflict, saying the members had been exposed to distorted, biased information for an extended period, leading to misunderstandings about the company and ultimately to a dispute. The label said both sides agreed that, to regain fans’ trust, they need time to clarify the facts and fully resolve the misunderstandings. ADOR plans to address various controversies raised during the dispute at a later date, with the timing and format still under discussion.
Finally, the label said it will work to resolve matters smoothly and bring NewJeans back to fans as soon as possible.
Earlier, after ADOR announced HYEIN and HAERIN would remain with the company, DANIELLE, HANNI and MINJI signaled through their legal representatives an intention to rejoin ADOR. The label responded cautiously, saying it would verify the members’ intentions―prompting criticism from former CEO Min Hee-jin, who accused ADOR of “splitting the members.”
