The Dec. 5 episode unpacks the mysteries behind the executive’s suspicious pre-dawn drive.
In the early hours of Aug. 19, a woman in her 20s, identified as Eun-ji (a pseudonym), wrapped a night out with friends and headed home by taxi. Instead, she was discovered bleeding in a Gangnam alley. She appeared to have suffered a serious head injury and was rushed to a hospital, where she ultimately lost sight in her left eye. What happened on that street?
Security cameras near where she was found captured key moments from the night. Footage shows a white SUV pulling up to Eun-ji after she exited a cab, picking her up and driving away.
What followed was harrowing. According to CCTV reviewed by her family and the show’s producers, after Eun-ji got out of the white SUV she stumbled, fell hard to the ground and hit her head. The male driver then dragged or pulled her toward the curb, left without offering aid, returned briefly, and left again.
Because of concussion-related memory loss, Eun-ji recalls only one clear flash: “Someone on my left touched me.” The driver, a man in his 50s identified as Mr. Kang (a pseudonym) ― described as an executive at a major entertainment company ― is accused of groping her in the vehicle. He denies any wrongdoing, saying the intoxicated woman flagged him down, he stopped at her request and dropped her off where she asked. With the victim’s memory in pieces and the suspect insisting on innocence, it has become a tense he-said, she-said.
Producers say court records show Mr. Kang previously targeted intoxicated women in a series of car-related assaults around Gangnam. Five victims were recognized by the court, and he served a two-year prison sentence before being released in April of this year. Four months later, he became entangled in Eun-ji’s case.
With the victim’s memory missing and the suspect proclaiming innocence, the "Curious Story Y" team pored over the CCTV ― and say they uncovered a startling detail. What the cameras reveal, and the truth behind the entertainment executive’s suspicious late-night drive, will unfold on "Curious Story Y" on Friday at 8:50 p.m.
