Amid Turmoil, NewJeans' 'Ditto' Goes Triple Platinum in Japan

NewJeans is proving its global pull hasn’t dimmed. Despite a contract dispute and a lull in activity, the group just notched another milestone in Japan.

On the 27th, the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) confirmed that “Ditto,” from the single album "OMG," surpassed 300 million cumulative streams as of October 2025 and earned a Triple Platinum certification for streaming.

NewJeans is the first K-pop girl group to achieve Triple Platinum in Japan’s streaming category. Across all of K-pop, only two acts hold that distinction―evidence of the quintet’s enduring influence overseas.

Released in December 2022, “Ditto” folds Baltimore club textures into NewJeans’ signature wistful vibe. Within six months of their debut, the track entered both the Billboard Hot 100 and the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart. It topped Melon’s year-end chart last year and this year took home Best K-Pop Song in Japan at Music Awards Japan 2025.

Their Japanese streaming muscle extends beyond “Ditto,” with Double Platinum certifications for “OMG” and “Hype Boy,” and Platinum for “ETA,” “Super Shy,” and “Attention.”

All five members recently chose not to appeal a first-trial ruling that upheld their exclusive contracts, keeping their deal with ADOR in place. While the legal saga has cooled, a full-group return remains unconfirmed.

On the 12th, HAERIN and HYEIN officially announced their comeback through ADOR, while MINJI, DANIELLE, and HANNI issued separate statements signaling they’re ready to resume activities. ADOR, however, said it’s coordinating individual meetings with the members and remains cautious about detailing any full-group schedule.

With plans still in flux post-dispute, NewJeans’ continued momentum in Japan is drawing even more attention.
