Son Ye-jin took home her second Best Actress trophy at the Blue Dragon Film Awards.
At the 46th ceremony, held Nov. 19 at KBS Hall in Yeouido, Seoul, Son won for "No Other Choice," topping a competitive field that included Lee Hye-young ("The Old Woman with the Knife"), Song Hye-kyo ("Dark Nuns") and Lee Jae-in ("Hi-FIVE").
“Thank you. I used to prepare a speech every time I was nominated, but not tonight―I’m honestly a little stunned,” she said. “I remember winning Best Actress at Blue Dragon when I was 27 and saying how hard it was to be a young actress and how this award would give me strength. Now that I’m in my mid-40s, thank you for honoring me with it again. Winning a Blue Dragon was my dream as an actor, and I’m grateful for the chance to achieve it.”
She continued, “This was my first big-screen role in seven years, and I worried whether I could still do it well. Even with relatively few scenes, our director helped bring Mi-ri to life―thank you. Watching senior actor Lee Byung-hun at work was incredibly inspiring. Getting married and becoming a mom has deepened my emotions and changed how I see the world. I’ll keep striving to be a better actor and meet you with better work.”
Finally, she added, “I want to share this joy with the two men I love most in the world―Kim Tae-pyung (Hyun Bin) and our baby, Kim Woo-jin.”
"No Other Choice" follows Man-su (Lee Byung-hun), a salaryman who feels he’s finally made it―until he’s abruptly laid off. Determined to protect his wife, two kids and the hard-won home they live in, he wages a personal war to get back on his feet. Son Ye-jin plays Mi-ri, a mother holding the family together as their finances crumble, delivering a gripping, grounded performance.
