"Okay! Madam", the 2020 summer crowd-pleaser that drew 1.22 million moviegoers, is making a comeback five years later with a sequel.
"Okay! Madam 2" is an action-comedy that moves the high-flying chaos from the skies to the sea: after pulling off a rescue mission midair in the first film, the family receives a mysterious invitation to a luxury cruise, where unpredictable trouble erupts.
Uhm Jung-hwa reprises her role as Mi-young, the lovable action heroine who won over family audiences, trading airplane aisles for a cruise deck as she dishes out brisk, laugh-packed action. Park Sung-woong returns as her husband, Oh Seok-hwan, a former National Intelligence Service desk officer. Original cast members Lee Sang-yoon (as North Korean operative Ri Chul-seung) and Bae Jung-nam (as flight attendant Jung Hyun-min) are also back, reuniting the OG crew.
Fresh faces are joining the voyage, too. Rowoon boards as a charming onboard magician, while Park Jin-joo plays Sun-ah, the cruise’s cabins team manager, rounding out a flashier, funnier action lineup. Sooyoung joins as Anya, the woman who invites Mi-young and her family onto the ship, adding new intrigue and tension to the mix.
At a full table read held on October 10, the cast, director, and crew showed off serious esprit de corps. Returning director Lee Chul-ha said, “Despite opening during the pandemic, "Okay! Madam" received a lot of love. With our seasoned team and cast, we’re aiming to deliver an even funnier, more crowd-pleasing sequel.”
Series lead Uhm Jung-hwa added, “This is the first sequel of my entire career. It’s an honor to see a project I love become a franchise. I’ll pay it back with fearless action-comedy once again.”
Meanwhile, "Okay! Madam 2" has been set as the first flagship title under CGV’s new direct investment and distribution push launching in 2025, part of the exhibitor’s effort to help revive a sluggish film industry.
"Okay! Madam 2" began principal photography on October 16 and is currently filming.
