On the Nov. 5 episode of SBS’ "Kick a Goal", the first GIFA Cup semifinal takes center stage as defending G League champs FC Gucheokjangshin square off against FC World Class, a surging contender since the addition of “Emperor” Jai. With a spot in the final on the line, expect a fiery clash.
The setback is massive. Lee, widely seen as the squad’s emotional leader, suffered a nose injury in the previous Round of 6 and won’t return this season. In the sudden leadership void, veteran Lee Hye-jung admitted, “What do we even do now?” Newly appointed captain Kim Jin-kyung added, “Without Hyun-yi, we’re missing that steadying voice when things get shaky.” All eyes are on how Gucheokjangshin will regroup without its heartbeat.
To steady the ship, a familiar face is back. Fan favorite Song Hae-na―nicknamed “Haena-baro”―returns to the team after nearly two years. Known for clean defending and sharp positioning, she rushed back to lift the embattled side. “I joined late, so I’ve only had four days of practice,” she said, “but I’ll be the energy spark that keeps the team buzzing.” Can her return jump-start Gucheokjangshin’s run?
Head coach Lee Young-pyo is also plotting a tactical reset built around patient build-up play. “If we want to evolve, we have to commit to building from the back,” he said, shelving the team’s old staples―tight man-marking and long throws―in favor of a pass-first, Gucheokjangshin-branded tiki-taka. Early looks suggest higher possession and a fresh on-field identity.
How will Gucheokjangshin fare against powerhouse World Class without its captain? Find out when "Kick a Goal" airs tonight, Nov. 5, at 9 p.m. KST on SBS.
