Singer Sung Si-kyung has reportedly suffered financial losses at the hands of a manager he worked with for more than a decade, drawing an outpouring of sympathy from fans.
After the story surfaced on Nov. 3, fans noticed that his team began quietly trimming select videos from his YouTube channel―widely interpreted as fallout from the situation.
The heartbreak is hitting especially hard because Sung is known for treating his staff like family.
On TV and YouTube, he’s often seen sharing food with a warm “You have to try this,” and he showed his loyalty at an employee’s wedding alongside officiant Yang Hee-eun and emcee Shin Dong-yup.
Fans have flooded him with support: “Please take care of your mental health first,” “Being betrayed by someone who felt like family can be devastating,” and “It’s time to regroup with the people who remain.” Some also referenced the “overcharging” flap in May―when he received procedures costing more than 7 million won at an acquaintance’s dermatology clinic―adding, “Not everyone will have the same heart as you.”
Addressing the matter on Nov. 3, Sung wrote on social media, “It wasn’t easy to watch my trust shatter with someone I cherished like family. The past few months have been painful and hard to endure. Keeping up YouTube and concerts as if nothing happened took a real toll on my body and mind. I’m still asking myself whether I can step onstage for year-end shows.”
His agency, SK Jaewon, is currently assessing the scope of the financial damage tied to the former manager.
