"No Other Choice" has landed major nominations at the Gotham Awards, often seen as a bellwether for the Oscars.
The film follows Mansu (Lee Byung-hun), a company man who thinks he has it all―until a sudden layoff upends his life. Determined to protect his wife, two kids, and the hard-won home they share, he mounts a fierce, deeply personal fight to get back on his feet.
With the movie on the verge of surpassing 3 million admissions in Korea, the 35th Annual Gotham Awards recognized "No Other Choice" with three nominations: International Feature, Adapted Screenplay, and Lead Performance for Lee Byung-hun.
That makes it only the second Korean film to earn an International Feature nod at the Gothams, following Park Chan-wook’s "Decision to Leave."
Held annually in New York, the Gotham Awards spotlight distinctive films celebrated for artistic rigor, craftsmanship, and originality. As one of awards season’s first major stops, the recognition sets up "No Other Choice" for a buzzy global run.
International Feature honors non-English-language works and often signals a combination of standout performances and top-tier production.
Adapted Screenplay recognizes bold reinterpretations of existing material. Co-writers Park Chan-wook, Lee Kyoung-mi, Don McKellar, and Lee Ja-hye reimagined Donald E. Westlake’s novel "The Ax" for today’s realities and anxieties, striking a chord with audiences.
Lee Byung-hun’s layered turn as a man on the brink earned him a Lead Performance nomination. All eyes are on whether he could become the first Korean actor to take home the prize.
