Actor Kim Si-a has joined the production of an audio-described, barrier-free version of Wim Wenders’ Cannes-lauded Japanese drama "Perfect Days".

The nonprofit Barrier Free Film Committee, with production support from Shopping NT, held the narration recording at the Seoul Business Agency (SBA) Media Content Center, with director Kim Yong-gyun taking part.

A veteran of Chungmuro behind "Wanee & Junah," "The Sword With No Name," and most recently "Picnic," Kim Yong-gyun made his first foray into barrier-free filmmaking by recording narration for "Perfect Days". “It was a compelling way to experience the film anew, and working with a director and actor I admire made it even more enjoyable,” he shared.

Kim Si-a, who made her debut with "Miss Baek" and left a strong impression in films including "Kill Boksoon," also stepped in as the narrator for the accessible version of "Perfect Days"―her first time participating in a barrier-free project.

“It’s a film I’ve loved for a long time, so I was grateful to join something this meaningful―and I approached it with a real sense of responsibility. I hope even more people can fully enjoy the movie,” Kim said.

Both Kim Yong-gyun and Kim Si-a volunteered their talents pro bono, underscoring the mission behind barrier-free cinema.

Set in Shibuya, Tokyo, "Perfect Days" follows the quiet, unadorned daily life of public restroom cleaner Hirayama, underscored by classic pop spinning from cassette tapes. The film earned strong reviews upon its Korean release, drawing 140,000 admissions. For longtime art-house fans, it’s a nostalgic reunion with Yakusho Koji and the warmth of old-school tunes; for new audiences, it’s a welcoming entry point to the work of German New Cinema master Wim Wenders.

The barrier-free edition is being produced with support from Shopping NT, with postproduction handled at the SBA Media Content Center, and is slated for completion soon.
