Choi Woo-shik is opening up about why he signed on for SBS’s upcoming Friday-Saturday drama ‘Would You Marry Me’―and what fans can expect.

Premiering Friday, Oct. 10, the series follows a man and woman who enter a 90-day sham newlywed arrangement to hang on to a luxury newlywed apartment they won in a giveaway, blending sweet romance with high-stakes comedy. Choi leads as Kim Woojoo opposite rom-com favorite Jung So-min as Yoo Meri, with writer Lee Ha-na and directors Song Hyun-wook and Hwang In-hyuk at the helm.

On Sept. 30, producers released a written Q&A with Choi, who plays the impeccably polished heir to a storied baking dynasty. He teased pitch-perfect chemistry with Jung, calling it “a perfect 100.”

“I was hooked wondering where Woojoo and Meri’s story would go and how it would end,” Choi said, adding that the chance to team with director Song Hyun-wook and Jung So-min sealed the deal.

Asked to rate their chemistry, he didn’t hesitate: “A perfect 100.” He added, “The best part of this project was getting to know Jung So-min as a scene partner. She’s so deft no matter what the scene calls for―I found myself learning a lot from her.”

Choi picked the pair’s first meeting as his most unforgettable moment. “In real life it might not be a pretty first meeting, but on screen it’s so striking that it sticks with you,” he teased. “I hope viewers look forward to that spark that binds Woojoo and Meri together.”

Describing Kim Woojoo―the sole fourth-generation heir to the famed Myungsundang bakery brand―Choi said, “He grew up starved for affection, so there’s a loneliness to him. He may seem aloof, but he’s sincere, warm, believes in fate―and he loves Meri more than anyone.”

“This isn’t just a rom-com―it weaves in human drama, mystery and a bit of con-artist caper fun,” he added, inviting viewers of all ages to tune in.

‘Would You Marry Me’ premieres Friday, Oct. 10 at 9:50 p.m. KST on SBS.
