At a recent studio taping, actress Im Soo-hyang―Eun-ji’s best friend of 18 years―made a surprise appearance, jokingly calling herself the “sister-in-law” as she stepped in to speak on her friend’s behalf. She teased that Kim once kept his wife on a tight leash, while Kim laughed it off, blaming his “keeper instincts” for being overprotective of his stunning spouse.
Viewers also learn why he’s so protective. Beyond being a DARA and Ye-won-lookalike, Dr. Kim runs a dermatology clinic in Cheongdam and handles the complexions of top stars like Seo Kang-joon and Park Hyo-shin. Kim introduced her as “the breadwinner,” joking that he’s “basically a bum” these days as he focuses on homemaking. In a shocker, the once-intimidating goalie confessed he’s been living out of a tiny two-pyeong (about 70 sq. ft.) closet at home.
His spending habits raised eyebrows, too. Despite having no fixed income, he swears by “little joys,” collecting more than 100 phone cases. He also has a rule that juniors never pay―he even insists on picking up the tab for Son Heung-min, whom he still considers a junior. The twist? The charges were all going on his wife’s card―the infamous “wife card.”
Kim’s hyperfocus isn’t limited to shopping. He’s dove so deep into mobile gaming that he once ranked No. 1 in Korea. That obsession had his wife confessing she didn’t understand his lifestyle―and that the couple even flirted with a divorce scare.
