No Other Choice blends a fight-for-survival story with ironic humor

Park Chan-wook’s new film "No Other Choice" is on a tear. Three days out from release, advance sales have blasted past 300,000 tickets, signaling a box-office surge for the Chuseok holiday frame.

According to the Korean Film Council’s ticketing chart on the 22nd, "No Other Choice", opening on the 24th, leads with a 58.2% share of advance bookings and 310,000 tickets pre-sold, topping both metrics.

That marks the biggest pre-sale haul for a Korean film this year―outpacing breakout hit "My Daughter Is a Zombie" (30,032 tickets as of the afternoon before opening), early-year buzzy title "Mickey 17" (244,159 the morning before release), and 2024’s top grosser "Exhuma" (232,359 the morning before release).

After premiering in competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival to raves from critics and international press, "No Other Choice" kept the momentum rolling at the 30th Busan International Film Festival, where the film’s first Asian screening captivated industry insiders and general audiences alike.

Timed for release on the 24th, the film is zeroing in on an extended Chuseok stretch that runs up to 10 days. With pre-sales already past 300,000, turnout is expected to accelerate through opening weekend.
