No Other Choice: Ironic Humor Supercharges a High-Stakes Survival Story

Park Chan-wook's latest film, "No Other Choice", has won the International People's Choice Award at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).

"No Other Choice" follows Man-su (Lee Byung-hun), a company man who thought he had it all―until a sudden layoff upends everything. Determined to protect his wife, two kids, and the home they worked so hard for, he launches a personal war to get rehired, turning a high-stakes survival tale into a darkly funny, irony-laced ride. Directed by Park Chan-wook, the film also stars Son Ye-jin, Lee Sung-min, Yum Hye-ran, and Park Hee-soon.

Introduced this year, the International People's Choice Award honors the most popular international feature―excluding Canada and the U.S.―as voted by festivalgoers.

As the award's inaugural winner, "No Other Choice" cements its global buzz, proving the film's crowd-pleasing blend of urgency and universal relatability.

"I wasn't surprised by the news because I saw the audience's enthusiasm firsthand at our official screenings," Park said. "They gave us exactly the reactions we hoped for, moment by moment. Toronto audiences are the best in the world. My sincere thanks to the festival team and all the volunteers."

"No Other Choice" opens in Korea on the 24th.
