Premiering Oct. 10, the new Friday-Saturday rom-com follows a sugary-but-cutthroat 90-day sham newlywed arrangement as two strangers team up to secure a luxury newlywed home grand prize. It pairs "Parasite" standout Choi Woo-shik (as Kim Woo-joo) with rom-com favorite Jung So-min (as Yoo Meri), promising crackling chemistry under directors Song Hyun-wook and Hwang In-hyuk, from a script by Lee Ha-na.
Choi steps into Kim Woo-joo, a picture-perfect fourth-generation heir to Korea’s first bakery empire ― cool, composed, and impossible to read. Jung plays Yoo Meri, the one-woman boss of Meri Design, whose lovable grit keeps her going against all odds.
In the newly released stills, Woo-joo sits across from Meri with an effortlessly aloof stare, while Meri meets him with eyes full of hope. The split-screen vibe hints at a charged conversation and a serious case of opposites attracting.
A cosmic coincidence ― fitting for a hero named Woo-joo ― flips their fates. After calling off her engagement when her ex (Seo Beom-jun) cheats, Meri wins first place in a newlywed housing giveaway. Then she runs into a man who shares her ex’s exact name: bakery heir Kim Woo-joo. On impulse, she asks him to be her husband. For 90 days, that is.
In one still, Meri’s wide, pleading gaze all but begs for a lifeline, while Woo-joo counters with a poker face that says he’s not easily swayed. The tension between her earnest proposal (sort of) and his stone-cold response sets the stage for a delicious push-and-pull.
Will this fated name mix-up turn two strangers into something real? "Would You Marry Me" premieres Oct. 10 at 9:50 p.m. KST on SBS.
