Stylist Seo Soo-kyung shared a heartfelt remembrance of the late YouTube star The Great Library, recalling a memorial that was as bold and boisterous as he was.
On Sept. 9, Seo posted photos from happier days alongside an image of his portrait from the service. “Right to the end, it was glamorous and loud―a four-day send-off that felt like a party,” she wrote.
She also looked back on small, joyful moments: “Not long ago, he drove the green and sank a long putt for an eagle, and he finally perfected his beloved gang-doenjang (a thick soybean paste dish). Now it’s on us to keep his gang-doenjang alive,” she said, adding, “He was the guy who picked up the tab whenever a crowd got together.”
“Even while juggling broadcasts and work, he always carved out time to hang, sharing good wine and home-cooked meals,” Seo continued. “When it was just the two of us, there was never a quiet moment―and it hurts that our group chat has been quiet these last couple of days.”
“I believe he’s somewhere beautiful, dressed in that striking white outfit with gold embroidery, having a great time,” she added. “I’ll pass along the things you wanted to say and brag about.” She signed off with a bittersweet nod to his routine: “Today would’ve been his golf day―ever the broadcaster, he even nailed the timing. Goodbye.”
The Great Library died of a cerebral hemorrhage at home in the early hours of Sept. 6, after wrapping a broadcast. His ex-wife, fellow creator Yum-Cast (Lee Chae-won), who oversaw the service, said an autopsy confirmed the hemorrhage as the cause of death, shutting down speculation and rumors. “His blood pressure had been a bit high lately and he planned to start medication, but recent checkups found no major issues,” she noted, asking the public to refrain from further conjecture.
