Yoon Kye-sang shared a heartfelt message as "The Winning Try" signed off.

SBS’s Friday-Saturday drama "The Winning Try" wrapped its 12-episode run on Aug. 30.

“Making it to the finish line was possible above all because of the viewers’ love,” Yoon said through his agency on the 1st. “Everyone who cheered with us every week was the miracle. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I hope this series remains a fond memory for you.”

All summer long, Yoon anchored the show’s blend of laughs, heart and fist-pump moments. As Joo Garam, the newly minted coach of Hanyang Athletics High School’s perennial last-place rugby team, he delivered a performance that swung from buoyant comedy to stirring grit―and made you root for the underdogs.

Leaning into his playful side early on, Yoon’s Joo Garam bounced with rugby-ball energy. Once a national sweetheart of the sport, he’d vanished in disgrace after being branded a “doper.” His return as a team leader kick-started the show’s miracle and hooked viewers from the jump.

Unfazed by side-eyes or whispers, Joo chose swagger over shame―a wide-eyed wild card who carved out his place in the locker room. Warm smile at the ready, he still spoke hard truths when it counted, steadily winning everyone over.

Yoon’s precision comic timing and seasoned pacing boosted the series’ pop, while his grounded sincerity sold the character’s love for rugby, do-or-die drive for a national sports festival win, and steady leadership that forged a true one-team spirit. With sharp eyes, expressive beats and a resonant voice, he let audiences feel every high and low―reminding viewers why he’s a bankable lead.

That range helped "The Winning Try" finish on a high, posting 6.4% nationwide and 6.6% in the Seoul capital region. Throughout its run, Yoon also consistently placed in the Top 10 of Good Data Corporation’s FUNdex rankings for most buzzworthy drama performers, underscoring his staying power.

Next up, Yoon will headline the Coupang Play and Genie TV original series UDT: Our Neighborhood Special Forces, promising a fresh transformation.

Taking over the time slot is SBS’s new Friday-Saturday drama "The Mantis: Original Sin," starring Ko Hyun-jung and Jang Dong-yoon.
