SBS’ Friday-Saturday drama "The Winning Try" is a raucous sports dramedy about unpredictable oddball coach Ju Garam and Hanyang PE High School’s perennial last-place rugby team charging toward a National Sports Festival title. Episode 8 posted a new series high, peaking at 8.8%, with 7.3% in the Seoul capital region and 6.8% nationwide.
Ahead of Episode 9, the "The Winning Try" team has released stills teasing a full-on showdown between rugby coach Ju Garam (Yoon Kye-sang) and aerobics coach Bang Heung-nam (Jung Soon-won).
Though Garam and Heung-nam are former rugby teammates from Hanyang PE High, they’ve long been at odds. Acting on orders from Vice Principal Seong Jong-man (Kim Min-sang), Heung-nam has been keeping tabs on Garam and the rugby squad ― and last week’s episode ended with his cryptic grin aimed squarely at Garam, ratcheting up the tension.
In one image, Garam grabs Heung-nam by the collar, his easygoing smile swapped for an icy glare. The coach who’s brushed off needling from his old friend now looks ready to explode, setting the stage for a volatile face-off.
Then the mood flips: the pair are caught head-to-toe in flour, rolling on the floor like high schoolers in a playground tussle. When someone apparently walks in on them mid-brawl, both freeze and stare in the same direction ― a sight gag that all but guarantees a big laugh.
Will this anything-goes scuffle finally clear the air between Garam and Heung-nam? And can Heung-nam let go of old grudges and truly make up with his longtime friend? Episode 9 of "The Winning Try" looks ready to answer those questions.
