Han So-hee, Jeon Jong-seo, and director Lee Hwan of the film ‘Project Y’―invited to the Special Presentations program at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)―have confirmed they will attend the festival.
‘Project Y’ follows Mi-seon and Do-kyung, two people who have nothing but each other, as they plot to steal a hidden stash of illicit cash and gold bars to claw their way out of rock-bottom circumstances.
With Han and Jeon’s undeniable chemistry and a breezy, punk-tinged crime-caper vibe, ‘Project Y’ has been selected for TIFF’s Special Presentations lineup. Han So-hee, known not only for hits like 'Gyeongseong Creature,' 'My Name,' and Nevertheless but also as a style icon with a global following, and Jeon Jong-seo, who broke out with Lee Chang-dong’s 'Burning' and has since turned heads worldwide with projects like 'The Call' and 'Bargain,' are set to draw major international attention with their appearance in Toronto.
Director Lee Hwan―whose bold debut 'Park Hwa-young' and follow-up 'Young Adult Matters' stirred fresh debate and played at leading festivals including Busan―returns with his third feature, ‘Project Y,’ and expectations are high for the distinct style he’ll bring to TIFF.
On Wednesday, September 10 (local time), Han So-hee, Jeon Jong-seo, and Lee Hwan will meet global audiences on the red carpet ahead of the world premiere. The first public screening will follow at 9:30 p.m. at the 1,721-seat Princess of Wales Theatre, one of the festival’s largest venues, with an audience Q&A to follow.
The next day, Thursday, September 11, at 3:45 p.m., a second screening and Q&A with the director and cast will take place at Scotiabank Theatre, offering even more chances for viewers to engage with ‘Project Y.’
Also on Thursday at 7:30 p.m., Han and Jeon will appear at “Close-Up: Han So-hee & Jeon Jong-seo,” a conversation that will cover the film, their friendship, and their growing global influence across K-pop, K-drama, and K-cinema. The event will be livestreamed on TIFF’s official social media channels.
As one of North America’s largest and most influential film festivals, TIFF’s official invitation is already generating buzz for ‘Project Y.’ The film will bow at the festival before its theatrical release in Korea.
