Actor Ahn Hyo-seop candidly expressed his feelings about the concerns of original fans towards the movie 'Omniscient Reader'.
During an interview held in Samcheong-dong, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 16th to celebrate the release of 'Omniscient Reader', Ahn Hyo-seop discussed the mixed atmosphere of anticipation and concern among the original fans, saying, "Taking part in a movie based on such a highly anticipated IP inevitably comes with its pressures. As someone who also consumes movies, I understand the initial skepticism when a beloved work is remade. It's not easy to break away from the version you've already envisioned in your mind."
However, he added, "But we couldn't let that hesitation stop us from moving forward with the movie we wanted to make. All I could do was to 'bring 'Dokja' within this script to life' as best as I could as an actor. So, I immersed myself as much as possible into the character and the story."
Ahn Hyo-seop emphasized, "I viewed 'Omniscient Reader' as a story created together by the audience and the readers. Although the ending has already been filmed, we wanted to create a space that encourages the audience to ponder alongside us. We made efforts to ensure the audience could climb aboard the flow of the movie and immerse themselves."
Regarding a scene hinting at a sequel at the end of the movie, he mentioned, "The production of a sequel isn't up to me. Of course, if all conditions align, it would be possible. If a sequel were to be made, I imagine the first part as 'Dokja' scrambling to find his own philosophy, and in the sequel, based on the standards set in the first part, 'Dokja' would confidently unfold his beliefs. If a sequel is made, expect to see a more proactive and charismatic 'Dokja'."
'Omniscient Reader' marks Ahn Hyo-seop's first movie in his 10th year since debut. He described it as "a gift-like project for me. I've long imagined myself acting on the big screen. Filming this movie made me realize how fun and exciting working on a film can be."
'Omniscient Reader' is a fantasy action story where the world of a novel, which has been serialized for over ten years, becomes reality on the day it concludes. 'Kim Dokja', the sole reader of the novel, along with the novel's protagonist 'Yoo Joonghyuk' and their allies, must survive in this doomed world. The movie, based on a web novel with over 200 million views, stars Ahn Hyo-seop as the main character 'Kim Dokja', leading this blockbuster film.
The movie is set to premiere on the 23rd.
