The much-anticipated Bangkok concert of G-DRAGON, part of his 'Übermensch' world tour, has been unexpectedly canceled.
With the official ticket release not even initiated, the sudden cancellation of the concert, just three weeks away, has led to an uproar among fans. Criticism towards Galaxy Corporation, G-DRAGON's management company, for its inadequate handling of the situation, is intensifying.
On the 11th, Galaxy Corporation expressed through its official channels, "We deeply regret to announce the cancellation of the Bangkok concert scheduled for August 2nd due to unforeseen circumstances. We sincerely apologize to the fans who have been eagerly awaiting the performance. We look forward to the day we can meet our Thai fans again." However, the specific reasons for the cancellation were not disclosed.
This concert was to be a part of G-DRAGON's global tour, set to take place at the Rajamangala National Stadium in Bangkok. Some fans had taken time off work, booked transportation, and accommodations in anticipation of the event, only to have their plans fall through. The lack of compensation or a detailed explanation from the company has only fueled the fans' frustration.
This controversy is part of an ongoing issue with the management risks associated with Galaxy Corporation, as consistently pointed out by G-DRAGON's fanbase.
Indeed, G-DRAGON's previous world tour stops have been plagued by operational hiccups. The opening show in March at the Goyang Stadium in Seoul kicked off 73 minutes late, and in cities like Macao, Sydney, and Hong Kong, the venues were too small to accommodate the demand, leading to a series of consecutive performances that seemed overambitious.
G-DRAGON's global fans have even resorted to truck protests to voice their dissatisfaction. The fanbase criticizes Galaxy Corporation for its apparent incompetence in managing G-DRAGON's tour while also pointing out that the company's CEO, Choi Yong-ho, seems overly visible in the artist's official activities. They speculate whether the company's actions are more about aiming for a stock listing than prioritizing the artist's career.
