In the SBS Friday-Saturday drama 'Our Movie' (written by Han Ga-eun and Kang Kyung-min, directed by Lee Jung-heum), the dream-filled, terminally ill actress Lee Da-eum (played by Jeon Yeo-been) gains the courage to live and love from every word spoken by film director Lee Je-ha (played by Namkoong Min).
Lee Da-eum's interest in Lee Je-ha began five years ago when she unexpectedly passed the first audition for the lead role in Lee Je-ha's debut film 'Cleaning'. Although she didn't make it to the second audition, Lee Da-eum has long remembered Lee Je-ha's name for recognizing her potential.
Thus, upon seeing the synopsis for 'White Love', a film under Lee Je-ha's name five years later, Lee Da-eum could not help but be drawn to it. She believed that Lee Je-ha would cast her as the lead, even with her life's limitation of being terminally ill. Lee Da-eum made a strong impression on Lee Je-ha, both as a consultant on terminal illness and as a rookie actress applying for the audition, and Lee Je-ha gladly cast her in his film.
For the newly minted lead actress Lee Da-eum, Lee Je-ha showed a tender side, sparing no support. He shared secrets with her, made sure she ate her meals and took her medicine, and even offered his old house when she expressed a desire not to return to the hospital. His thoughtful gestures, like leaving her favorite snacks and grape juice at her door, brought a smile to Lee Da-eum's face.
Especially when Lee Da-eum used a kiss scene in the script as an excuse to kiss him, Lee Je-ha did not push her away but responded, making everyone's heart flutter. Lee Je-ha's wet eyes, filled with determination as he ran through the rain, were enough to ignite a spark in Lee Da-eum's heart.
Most notably, the female lead in the movie 'White Love' is in a similar situation to Lee Da-eum, with not much time left to live. As Lee Da-eum unraveled the emotional lines of the characters in the movie, she discovered similarities between herself and the female lead, and between Lee Je-ha and the male lead. Like the female lead who changes the heart of a man who doesn't believe in love, Lee Da-eum also wants to teach Lee Je-ha about love.
However, the handicap of knowing her life's end made even the brave and spirited Lee Da-eum hesitate. Facing imminent death, Lee Da-eum could not feel free in dreams, life, or love. It was Lee Je-ha who gave her the courage to confess, erasing the limit of being terminally ill with his words, "Lee Da-eum, you can do anything," which deeply moved her and led to her confession.
Although she was met with rejection, Lee Da-eum's feelings for Lee Je-ha continue to grow, fueling her will to live and love even more. Lee Da-eum's straightforward approach, feeling intense thrills from every word Lee Je-ha says as she lives out the last flames of her life, leaves us wondering if her feelings will eventually reach him.
Jeon Yeo-been's poignant and courageous love story can be seen in 'Our Movie', airing every Friday and Saturday night at 9:50 PM.
