Singer Oh Seung-ha is set to spread the beauty of Korea as the newly appointed ambassador for Hanbok.
Oh attended the appointment ceremony held by the Korean Culture Promotion Association (Chairman Jung Samuel) at the Lotte Hotel in Sogong-dong, Seoul, on the 18th.
The ceremony was part of a campaign aimed at globalizing and popularizing Hanbok, Korea's traditional attire. Oh's active participation and cultural influence, notably through her appearance on "Miss Trot 3" where she showcased her talents in traditional music and the trot genre, earned her the ambassadorship.
As the Hanbok ambassador, Oh will take the lead in promoting the beauty and spiritual value of Hanbok through various stages and cultural content, both domestically and internationally. Her role will encompass performances in Hanbok, campaigns, and social media promotion, covering a wide range of cultural and diplomatic activities.
Chairman Jung Samuel of the Korean Culture Promotion Association stated, "Hanbok is a precious cultural heritage that embodies our national identity and artistic soul. We look forward to spreading the cultural value of Hanbok worldwide with Ambassador Oh."
The Association is continuously working towards the globalization of Hanbok through initiatives such as the Korea Hanbok Model Contest, Global Hanbok Fashion Show, diplomatic anniversary events, and international cultural exchange programs.
Oh expressed her honor in being able to promote the elegance and meaning of Hanbok as a musician bridging tradition and modernity. "I am deeply honored to have the opportunity to share the beauty and significance of Hanbok both in Korea and abroad. I will do my best as the Hanbok ambassador," she said.
A graduate of the Department of Korean Traditional Music at Hanyang University and a preserver of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Gyeonggi Folk Songs, Oh won the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Award at the 21st Gangwon National Gyeonggi-Seodo-Gangwon Voice Competition. Her participation in TV Chosun's "Miss Trot 3" in 2024 garnered significant attention, marking her as a trot singer with a background in traditional Korean music.
Amidst a busy schedule of events and TV appearances across the country, Oh has also made surprise guest appearances in the "2025 Namjin National Tour," celebrating the 60th anniversary of singer Namjin's debut.
