Actor Lee Seung-gi (38) has decided to sever ties with the family of Lee Da-in (32), and it has been confirmed that the arrest of his father-in-law, Mr. A, the day before was a decisive factor.
On the 29th, Lee Seung-gi announced through his agency, "My father-in-law has been indicted for another illegal act. I believe that illegal actions must be met with appropriate punishment, and I deeply apologize to the victims who may have suffered due to my premature judgment."
The day before Lee Seung-gi's official statement, on the 28th, prosecutors conducted a pre-trial detention hearing for Mr. A, Lee Da-in's father and Lee Seung-gi's father-in-law, on charges of violating the Capital Markets Act. The court issued an arrest warrant citing "concerns of evidence tampering" as the reason.
Prosecutors revealed that during their investigation into the stock price manipulation case of the KOSDAQ-listed company Quantapia, reported by the Securities and Futures Commission, they discovered evidence suggesting Mr. A's involvement in stock manipulation.
Last year, when it was pointed out that Lee Seung-gi's father-in-law was on trial for stock manipulation charges in 2016, Lee Seung-gi had stated through his agency, "These are matters that occurred before our marriage and should be resolved by the family, so please do not target my family."
However, last June, the Supreme Court overturned the original verdict that had acquitted Mr. A, Lee Seung-gi's father-in-law and husband of Kyun Mi-ri, of charges related to making false disclosures to manipulate stock prices and obtaining billions in illicit profits. The case was sent back to the Seoul High Court, and Mr. A's subsequent arrest on additional charges related to stock manipulation prompted Lee Seung-gi to take decisive action.
Lee Seung-gi married Lee Da-in in 2023 and they welcomed a daughter in February of the previous year.
