Actor Yoo Ah-in's latest starring film 'Hi.5' has confirmed its release date for June 3.
The film's distributor, NEW, announced the release date on the 21st, along with unveiling the launch poster. 'Hi.5' is a comedic action adventure about five individuals who, after undergoing organ transplants, accidentally gain unique superpowers and find themselves up against those who seek to exploit their abilities. Directed by Kang Hyung-chul, known for hits like 'Speed Scandal' and 'Sunny', the film features a stellar cast including Lee Jae-in, Ahn Jae-hong, Ra Mi-ran, Kim Hee-won, Yoo Ah-in, and Oh Jung-se.
The film, which wrapped up shooting four years ago in 2021, was initially set for a 2023 release. However, its premiere was postponed due to a drug scandal involving one of its lead actors, Yoo Ah-in.
In March, another of Yoo Ah-in's films, 'The Match', hit the 2 million mark in box office success, giving 'Hi.5' a boost towards its release. While the 'Yoo Ah-in risk' cannot be entirely dismissed, the success of a simultaneously shot film based solely on its merit and entertainment value has encouraged the team behind 'Hi.5' to push forward with its premiere.
'Hi.5' is not solely a Yoo Ah-in vehicle; it features an ensemble cast. However, Yoo's significant screen presence and acting prowess cannot be overlooked. The ensemble nature of the movie means that attention will be distributed among several actors.
June 3, designated as the 21st presidential election day, is a public holiday. With it leading into the Memorial Day weekend, the first week of June is expected to be a prime time for movie releases. Following the announcement of 'Big Deal's release on June 3, 'Hi.5' joins the fray, setting the stage for an exciting showdown.
